USPGA Golf Championship Results

PGA Championship Golf ResultsThe PGA Championship has a glittering array of past winners. The first winner since the format changed to stroke play in 1958 was Dow Finsterwald, but then a mere five years later a certain Jack Nicklaus won the first of his five victories, incredibly spanned over a period of 18years. He last won it in 1981. Gary Player won it twice in 1962 and 1972, but the other member of the 'big three', Arnold Palmer never managed to get his name on the trophy. Jack Nicklaus apart, nobody really dominated the tournament until Tiger Woods came along to win in 1999 and again in 2000. We all know that he has also won it for the last two years, but sadly he will not be defending it this year due to injury.

PGA Championship TrophyPerhaps with Tiger Woods missing, it leaves the gate open for a new winner, or will past Champions such as Vijay Singh, who won twice 1998 and 2004, look to make it a hat trick of wins. Tournament favourite will be Phil Mickelson, a winner here in 2005 and runner up in 2001, he will surely have a great chance to win his fourth Major. The winner this year is unlikely to be a European as they yet to win in the Tournament's 92 year old PGA Championship history. Outside of Vijay Singh and Nick Price, who won in 1992 and 1994, the only other non-American winners for the past thirty years have been Australian's, Steve Elkington (1995), Wayne Grady (1990) and David Graham (1979). The nearest to winning for the Europeans have been Sergio Garcia who was second the Tiger Woods in the epic 1999 Championship. Colin Montgomerie was 2nd in 1995 to Steve Elkington. European Ryder Cup Captain Nick Faldo was T2nd in 1992, 3rd in 1993 and T4th in 1994 and 1988. This is worth bearing in mind when it comes to making a bet in the PGA Championship Betting.
