Padraig Harrington

PGA Championship Padraig HarringtonPadraig Harrington is the top Irish Golfer and winner of the British Open in both 2007 and 2008. These victories are Padraig’s Major tournament wins, but he has had 9 other top ten Major finishes, including 5th place at the US Masters earlier in the year, behind Trevor Immelman. The PGA Championship in fact, is Padraig’s least successful Major, his best finish in this event was tied 17th in 2002. He was tied 42nd last year. No doubt he will be hoping for much better things this year. He has had fifteen professional victories in an excellent career, but he has been a runner up many other times. He has finished in the top ten on the European Tour's Order of Merit seven times, including second places in 2001 and 2002 and third places in 2003 and 2004. He eventually won the Order of Merit in 2006. Harrington also won the European Tour Golfer of the Year award last year. Although 5th in the Masters but with only three other top ten finishes, he has yet to get things going at the highest level this year.

World Ranking

He is currently ranked 3rd in the world, but has been as high as 6th.

Playing Style

Padraig has spent many years rebuilding his golf swing under the guidance of his coach, Bob Torrance. He now has a swing that looks ideal and he is triking the ball much more cleanly and getting greater distance. His short game has always been top notch and on his day is one of the best mid range putters on the tour.
